MIPIM 2023 | Impact your future

"Impact your future" was the overall theme of the 33rd MIPIM, which this year took place from 14 to 17 March in Cannes.  There were over 23,000 visitors to the fair from 90 different countries, which is 15% more visitors than in 2022.

Many NVM Business members were present again in this year's sunny Cannes: all corporates anyway but also many delegations from SME offices. From the NVM Business board, Dionne Toenbreker and Henri Boers were present. 

Themes

The main themes this year were rising interest rates, inflation, the banking crisis and sustainability/ESG. In every conversation we had, these topics were widely discussed. Still, the sentiment was positive because real estate people are creative and deal with bad news about interest rates or banks and always see opportunities and possibilities.

One exception is the increasingly complex Dutch regulations; these are perceived as an increasing disadvantage to still doing business with an acceptable return. However, the willingness of investors present to invest remains high and the willingness of property financiers to finance also remains intact.

Unlike previous crises, banks have taken their measures on solvency and there is sufficient money available internationally. Demand for state-of-the-art real estate that meets the highest sustainability standards remains unchanged. There is still a shortage of offices in good locations that meet all sustainability requirements. The same applies to logistics property.
